Class Policies

  • Registration and pre-payment is required to save your spot.
  • If you need to withdraw from a class for which you are registered, please give 24 hours notice in order to receive a refund or credit.
  • Materials are available at The Bead Gallery at a 15% discount to class participants. Be sure to mention that the purchases you are making are for a class so we can be sure to give you your discount.
  • Classes will run if there are two or more people enrolled. If you are the only person enrolled in a class, we will offer the class to you as a private lesson at private lesson rates. If you do not with to take a private lesson, we will issue you a credit or refund.

Classes are divided into #1 classes, which are suitable for any level of beading expertise, including beginner, and #2 classes, which are more suitable for those with some experience. The Bead Gallery staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have about classes.

Hammered Coin Button #1 - Hammered Coin Button $40 Materials Extra (Bring your own Coins)
Four (4) Students maximum
Instructor: Angela

Wouldn't that Euro you brought back from Spain make a great Button? Use a dapping block to hammer your coin into a dome shape, then, solder a jump ring on the back to create a button. Sew the button on clothing or use it as a closure on jewelry. Coins should be no larger than 26 mm (about the size of a quarter.)

Learn to solder, anneal, pickle, and polish while you create this beautiful sterling silver ring. Four (4) students maximum.

Bezel Setting a Cabochon #2 - Bezel Setting a Cabochon

Take your soldering skills and the ring you made in class #1 to the next level by embellishing it with a cabochon stone set in a silver bezel setting.

Drilling a Stone/Tapping a Stone and Attaching a Bail #1 - Drilling a Stone/Tapping a Stone and Attaching a Bail $30 Materials Extra
Three (3) students maximum
Instructor: Jesse or Julia

Learn how to use a Foredom drill to make a bead out of a stone (or create a bigger hole in an existing bead.) Students will usually be able to drill two (2) stones. *AT LEAST ONE STONE FOR DRILLING MUST BE PURCHASED AT THE BEAD GALLERY. *

Then, the teacher will demonstrate how to “tap” (drill part way into) a stone in order to attach a bail using jeweler's epoxy. If time permits, students will be able to tap their own stones. This is an elegant and professional method used to turn a stone into a pendant. You will learn safety measures and criteria for drilling stones without breaking them.

Introduction to Precious Metal Clay (PMC) #1 - Introduction to Precious Metal Clay (PMC) $50 Materials Extra
Class must have at least Three (3) Students minimum in order to run.

Learn all about Precious Metal Clay - what it is, how to use its different forms, how to dry, fire, and polish your creations. Make your choice of charms or pendant dangles for earrings.

Soldered Hammered Bracelet #3 - Soldered Hammered Bracelet $60 Materials Extra
Instructor: Angela

Making this gorgeous bracelet (inspired by one in a famous film-festival catalogue) will teach you several silver smithing techniques. You will learn how to saw, form, file, solder, polish and hammer silver wire into an elegant oval, then drilll and attach a stone to create an elegant focal point.

*LEVEL 3 CLASS - PREREQUISTES: 1 Drilling Class, Ability to make a Gallery Wrap.*

Hammered/Soldered Copper Bail #2 - Hammered/Soldered Copper Bail $40 Materials Extra
Three (3) students maximum

Copper wire is hammered and soldered to create a free-form bail around any stone that has a natural hole (such as a stone donut).

Funky Hammered Ring #1 - Funky Hammered Ring $40 Materials Extra

This class is a great introduction to working with metal. You will cut, file, and hammer metal as well as learn how to use a dapping block when you make this modern and fun ring.

Prong-set Cabochon #3 - Prong-set Cabochon $80 Materials Extra
Three (3) students maximum

Create a prong-setting for a 30 mm. cabochon (flat, polished stone) out of copper or silver. You will learn hammering, soldering, and stone-setting techniques.

Beginner I Softglass Beadmaking #1 - Beginner I Softglass Beadmaking $60 $10 Materials Fee PRIVATE CLASS AVAILABLE ($100)
Instructor: Cyndy

Become familiar with the tools, torches and materials used to make soft glass beads. Participants learn to make basic round and cylinder beads as well as how to embellish them. Techniques covered in this class include applying dots, stripes, and pulling stringers.

Intro to Borosilicate Glass #1 - Intro to Borosilicate Glass $80 $10 Materials Fee PRIVATE CLASS AVAILABLE ($50/hour)
Instructor: Max

Get familiar with torches and tools used to work with scientific glass (also known as borosilicate, hard glass, or pyrex). This type of glass can be used to creatively make art objects and pieces of jewelry. Students will learn to manipulate the glass, apply color and make small loops as they create basic pendants. This class will give students a general feel for borosilicate glasswork and give them a foundation for developing further skills.

Intermediate & Hollow Design in Borosilicate #1 - Intermediate & Hollow Design in Borosilicate $100 $10 Materials Fee PRIVATE CLASS AVAILABLE ($50/hour)

Learn decorating techniques such as silver and gold fuming, honeycomb and rattichello patterns with borosilicate glass. Participants will be using hollow tubes. Techniques can be used to decorate pendants, beads, paperweights, vessels and sculpture.

Intermediate Softglass Beadmaking #2 - Intermediate Softglass Beadmaking $80 $15 Materials Fee PRIVATE CLASS AVAILABLE - ($100)

You've completed the Beginner 1 Softglass Beadmaking class...now it's time to expand your skills. Learn how to make latichio (twisted glass rod stringers), use millefiori (literally," a thousand flowers"), silver foil, and encasing techniques.
